5 apps for a healthy Glastonbury

Our list of the five essential festival apps to keep you healthy and safe at this year’s Glastonbury.

Heading to Glastonbury this weekend? It’s time to stop worrying about cleaning those Hunter wellies, cram that portable yurt into the car and get your festival apps sorted.

We’ve found some of the best festival apps for making sure your summer season is healthy and safe – here’s the top five.

1 – What3Words

This app was put to good use at last year’s festival by emergency first responders, and it’s been suggested that this year the punters will be giving it a go too. The app assigns three words to specific co-ordinates for every 3×3 m2 area covering the planet – making it easier and quicker to get emergency assistance to those in need.

Developer’s description: What3Words is a global grid of 57 trillion 3mx3m squares.

Each square has a three word address that can be communicated quickly, easily and with no ambiguity.

Our geocoder turns geographic coordinates into these three word addresses and vice-versa.

Using words means non-technical people can accurately find any location and communicate it more quickly, more easily and with less ambiguity than any other system like street addresses, postcodes, latitude & longitude or mobile short-links.

2 – British Red Cross First Aid

Hopefully your festival will be safe, but accidents happen – especially in such intense surroundings. Download this free app as a handy all-round precaution.

Developer’s description: Our free app features simple, easy advice on 18 everyday first aid scenarios, as well as tips on how to prepare for emergencies, from severe winter weather to road traffic accidents.

3 – Breathometer

This app and device combo offers two variants. The original device sends details of your body’s alcohol levels to your smartphone – so you can see when it’s safe to drive when the fun is done. And for the benefit of your fellow campers, Breathometer Mint detects breath quality, in addition to monitoring your hydration – crucial when outdoors all day. Breathometer Mint is still in the pipeline, but expected this year, the company says.

Developer’s description: Breathometer currently offers two different products focused on the detection of alcohol, and recently announced Mint, a product to detect and monitor breath quality and hydration.

4 – Water Your Body

It’s nearly midnight. Florence is still dancing with her machine, and you are too – but did you stop for water? Water Your Body is one of several festival apps for keeping track of your fluid intake.

Developer’s description: Do you drink enough water? Do you always forget to drink water regularly? This App reminds you to drink water every day and tracks your water drinking habits.

5 – Drinks Meter

Another one for fluid intake monitoring – but this time we’re talking alcohol. Festivals are fun, but the excesses can take their toll. Stay safe and conscious of your intake with Drinks Meter.

Developer’s description: The drinks meter app provides you with instant feedback on your drinking. It compares your drinking against the Drinks Meter community to give unbiased, anonymous feedback.
